The advertising rules and the review
Every campaign is reviewed by a human before it is shown. These are the rules and the most common reasons for rejection.
No ad appears without a human having looked at it. This is not a sample check: every campaign moves through the states draft → in review → active, and only a moderator can take that last step.
The rules
- The community guidelines apply in full — an ad may not do anything a post may not do.
- The advertiser's name must be accurate and recognisable. Whoever pays for the ad must be visible to the reader.
- The destination URL must be a full `https` address, and must lead to what the ad promises.
- You upload the image to us and we serve it ourselves. External scripts, tracking pixels and third-party measurement codes are not allowed, and cannot be entered.
- No ads aimed at minors, and nothing covered by our policy on minors.
- No misleading claims, fake interface elements, false urgency, or copy posing as a message from Debaty or from a member.
How long review takes
A campaign stays in review until a moderator decides. There is no automatic approval and no waiting period after which it goes live by itself. As long as the campaign is not approved, nothing is shown and nothing is charged to your credit.
The most common reasons for rejection
- The destination URL leads somewhere other than the ad suggests, or is not `https`.
- The advertiser name is a brand or slogan instead of the party paying.
- The image contains text that looks like a button or an app notification.
- Claims that cannot be checked ("the best", "scientifically proven") without a source.
- The topic being targeted has nothing to do with what is being advertised.
Rejected — what then?
On rejection you see the reason on the campaign in the advertiser centre. Your credit is untouched. You adjust the campaign and submit it for review again; you may do that as often as needed.
